Whitley Bay lift FA Vase
Whitley Bay beat Glossop North End at Wembley yesterday (May 10th) to lift the FA Vase for the second time in seven years and put a smile on the face of the seaside town. Roared on by an estimated 7,000 supports the Seahorses bossed the match from start to finish and had the game sewn up on the stroke of half time when leading marksman Paul Chow scored the second of the two goals. The match finished 2 - 0 to Whitley Bay and the Vase returns to the North East coast for another year!
The match was played in blazing sunshine at the magnificant new home of English football in front of an appreciative audience who revelled in the atmosphere and cheered both teams on. Traders in the town got behind the team by decorating their windows with scarves, banners and pendants and a large empty shop unit was painted in blue and white stripes - the Bay's colours and with a message of support for the team.
