North Tyneside shoppers can escape the January blues this weekend and enjoy a range of free entertainment in the borough's town centres.
On Saturday, January 7, Backworth Colliery Band will be performing along Bedford Street in North Shields, from 11am to 12noon, and on the bandstand just outside of the Forum Shopping Centre in Wallsend between 1.30pm and 2.30pm.
The traditional local band will cover various styles of music including brass, dance, modern pop and swing.
In Whitley Bay, birds of prey will feature in a falconry display along Whitley Road, between 11am and 3pm.
Their keepers, Ridgeside Falconry - one of the largest mobile falconry display teams in the country - will be presenting a collection of birds and chatting to shoppers.
These events form part of a wide and varied programme of town centre events organised by North Tyneside Council as part of its commitment to support town centre businesses.
Anybody wanting to find out more information can sign up for a regular e-newsletter detailing all up and coming events in North Tyneside by emailing: events@northtyneside.gov.uk.
Previous town centre events have included pavement art, treasure hunts, circus street theatre, celebrity look-alike personal shoppers, dance displays and appearances from children's favourite TV characters including Peppa Pig.
All events are weather dependent and in the case of poor weather conditions, some outdoor events may either be cancelled or moved indoors.
