Park plans made public

15-DEC-09

Issued by: Graeme Cook

North Tyneside Council is unveiling plans for the restoration of Northumberland Park.

In March, the local authority hosted a consultation session, giving residents the opportunity to tell the council their priorities for any future investment at Northumberland Park.

And information about the proposed improvements will be available from 9am to 4pm, on Friday 18 December and Saturday 19 December at North Shields Central Library, as well as Friday 8 January and Saturday 9 January at the Beacon Shopping Centre, North Shields.

It forms part of the authority's Excellent Parks project, which plans to regenerate the borough's four main parks and open spaces - Northumberland Park, Wallsend Parks, Churchill Playing Fields and Killingworth Lake Park.

The council will be displaying images of the park from yesteryear and people wanting to attend are encouraged to bring along any of their own photographs, particularly of the stone lions, bandstand, glasshouses or floral displays.

Anyone interested in getting more involved in the park's future management and development will also be able to get information about how they can do so.

As well as investment from North Tyneside Council in its parks, the local authority is applying for grant funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and other sponsors to bring about improvements to its green spaces.
