Music on the streets

13-JUL-10

Issued by: Nicola Sleightholme

Visitors to North Tyneside's town centres can enjoy a day of free music and entertainment this Saturday (17 July).

Whitley Bay town centre will play host to events along Whitley Road, from 10am until 4pm, including music, singing, dancing, steel pans, samba, soloists and lots more.

There will be two areas for performance - one at each end of the street with different acts throughout the day. The events have been organised by North Tyneside Council's Music Service and Find Your Talent.

Elsewhere in North Tyneside, The Rhythm Kings - former jazz champions of Europe - will be playing classic jazz along Bedford Street in North Shields from 12.30pm and at the bandstand outside the Forum Shopping Centre in Wallsend from 3pm.

The events form part of a wide and varied programme of town centre events organised by North Tyneside Council as part of its commitment to support town centre businesses. Further events are planned for the rest of the year.

Previous town centre events have included a meet and greet opportunity with Newcastle Falcons Rugby team, celebrity look-alike personal shoppers, beatboxers, balloon modellers, urban dance performances, circus skills, falconry displays, magic shows, heritage tours and a model railway exhibition.
