Full steam ahead for town centre entertainment

20-JUL-10

Issued by: Duncan Bennett

Families visiting North Tyneside's town centres for a spot of shopping on Saturday, July 24, are in for a fun-packed day.

The Blyth & District Model Railway Society will be exhibiting at the Beacon Shopping Centre in North Shields during 11am and 3pm.

There will be a large model railway layout for enthusiasts to check out, while representatives from the organisation will be chatting to shoppers and answering their questions.

Meanwhile, some of the borough's top young dancers will be hosting a special dance event in Whitley Bay, along Whitley Road between 11am and 12noon.

There will be performances by Amanda Nicole School of Dance's 'Urban Dance Troupe', 'Cheers Squad' and 'North Tyneside B Boys'.

Visitors to Wallsend can enjoy music by the Backworth Colliery Band who will be playing traditional brass music at 12noon at the bandstand outside the Forum Shopping Centre.

The events form part of a wide and varied programme of town centre events organised by North Tyneside Council as part of its commitment to support town centre businesses. Further events are planned throughout the year.

Previous town centre events have included a meet and greet opportunity with Newcastle Falcons rugby team, celebrity look-alike personal shoppers, beatboxers, balloon modellers, magic shows, heritage tours and circus skills.

To be kept up to date on North Tyneside's town centre events, visit the council's website or see local press for details. You can sign up for a regular newsletter by emailing: events@northtyneside.gov.uk.
