16-APR-08

Volunteers will be donning abseiling equipment for a litterpick with a difference on North Tyneside this weekend.

Members of Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade are set to litterpick the banksides of King Edward's Bay as part of North Tyneside Council's Big Spring Clean campaign.

They will be using equipment normally used for cliff rescues to remove wind-blown litter from the slopes. Meanwhile, members of Tynemouth Village Association will be carrying out a litterpick of the surrounding area. The event will take place on Sunday 20 April at 11am.

The Big Spring Clean, which runs until the end of May, invites people to work with the council and help make the borough a cleaner and greener place to live.

The way to take part is by visiting the Big Spring Clean website at www.northtyneside.gov.uk/bigspringclean or phone the hotline, TEL: 0845 2000 106.
